Putting Life in Perspective

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Don’t know about you, but I’m getting really tired of hearing how bad things are in our country and in our lives these days, every time I turn around. Regardless of our individual politics, the constant negativity can be depressing.

So I can’t think of a better time to immerse myself with positive messages of encouragement and hope. Yes, things are tough and a bit scary right now. Some people are more directly affected than others, i.e automobile industry workers, local retail store owners (ha).

But you know, we live in a country of opportunity, even in the worst of times. I had the wonderful privilege of visiting the Middle East last year, and while it was a trip of lifetime in many respects, it also made me realize how fortunate I am to live in America. While things aren’t perfect here, we are so blessed to be able to speak freely, drink fresh water, worship openly, go to school, save what earn, come and go as we please, etc., etc., etc. So let’s make sure we count our blessings even on the tough days and make our mantra, “Life is good!”

What do you think about the power of positive thinking? Tell us your “life is good” story!

Why a Blog?

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

So why a Positively Jake Blog?

The answer is simple. Good news needs to be shared. Stories need to be heard. Optimism must be spread.

When my husband and I decided to open our Life is good retail store, Positively Jake, it wasn’t about selling “stuff”. It wasn’t even just offering the whole line of Life is good.® merchandise, although that would have been reason enough.

In Life is good, we found a company with a mission, not only to produce quality products, but one committed to changing the world, one smile at a time. And through the Life is good Kids Foundation, we’re able to do our small part to help children in need.

This Blog is a forum for all of us to talk about life, about philosophies, about how positive words can change attitudes. As Bert Jacobs, co-founder of Life is good®, says, ‘We’re not telling people that life is great. But we are saying, “Life is good”!’

Life can be tough. And it can be fabulous, even during challenging times. We’re in this together, so let’s share our stories, our ideas, our hopes, even our fears. Each of us has a voice that needs to be heard.

Let’s talk! Post your comment here, share your story, submit your photo, join the Positively Jake, Life is good community. We look forward to getting to know you!

Positively Jake’s Bithday Party Was a Success

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

Our 2nd anniversary celebration was a
success! The store was filled with customers enjoying freshly made
popcorn, the world’s biggest cupcakes, live music by John Campbell on
keyboards (he even took special requests!), “Jake” tattoos for the
kids, and great deals under the tent outside.  The rain held off until
late afternoon, thankfully.

Thanks to Cindy Chadwick for providing the popcorn machine
and special friendship; to Dusty Meehan, master corn popper and beauty
who always brightens a room; to Ruth and Jaime, two of our most
wonderful customers and supporters, who finally got to hold little
Patrick.

And thanks to our friends from the Life is good Festival
committee–Mary, Cynde, Leslie, Heather and Kristine, who provided lots
of fun and laughter. Thanks also to Kristine Champion for bringing us
that fabulous homemade apple and cinnamon cheesecake…oh, my! (I had
another slice with my morning coffee today.) And to Triche Guenin, my
good friend who is always there to encourage and spread Good Vibes(R).
So nice to meet Jim and see Mom and Dad again.

And we are thrilled to say that Positively Jake will donate $430 to Alternatives Pregnancy Center (http://www.apcdenver.org/) from our sales on Saturday. We’re going to Walk for Alternatives on June 6th, so this is a great start on reaching our fundraising goal for this annual event.

John, Patrick and I are looking forward to a great year #3: a year filled with optimism, positive stories, great Life is good products, and continued opportunities to help others. Life is good, indeed!
